Abstract

Azadirachta indica widely recognized as Neem belongs to the Meliaceae family, has gained global research interest due to its extensive medicinal properties. Neem is a fast-growing and hardy tree species, rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds, which offers various therapeutic benefits from different parts of the plant. Traditionally, neem has been integral to Ayurvedic, Unani, and Homeopathic medicine, especially in the Indian subcontinent, for preventing and managing numerous health conditions. Its properties include free radical scavenging, reducing disease pathogenesis, and providing antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory effects. Neem also shows promise as an anticancer, antipyretic, hypoglycemic, anti-ulcer, and anti-tumour agent. Additionally, the neem tree is recognized as a valuable multipurpose species in agricultural landscapes. This review highlights neem’s role in disease prevention and treatment through the regulation of various biological and physiological pathways. Its medicinal, agricultural, and environmental benefits make it an valuable natural resource with significant implications for sustainable development.
