The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents India's first comprehensive educational reform in over three decades, marking a decisive shift from the National Policy on Education of 1986. This article provides a holistic analysis of the NEP 2020, examining its foundational pillars, structural reforms, and pedagogical innovations. It details the transition from the 10+2 to a 5+3+3+4 curricular structure, the emphasis on multilingualism and foundational literacy, and the ambitious reforms in higher education, including multidisciplinary degrees and regulatory overhaul. The policy’s strong focus on equity, inclusion, and technology integration is critically assessed. While acknowledging the NEP’s progressive and aspirational vision to transform India into a "vibrant knowledge society," the article also addresses significant implementation challenges, including governance, financing, teacher training, and the need to tackle deep-seated social inequities. The successful realization of this policy hinges on sustained political commitment, democratic collaboration, and efficient resource management.
